The Saturday Before Christmas!

It has become a bit of a tradition that on the Saturday before Christmas Diane and I go to Brugges.  We have done it for the past several years.. (though I missed one when pregnant)... with different people each year. This year we were hoping to go with David and the Twins, but we were unable to go.  The fire in the Channel Tunnel earlier this year meant that the number of trains running went down from 3 to 1 an hour.  A consequence of this was that the prices went up, and all the cheap trains went early.  We were really upset to have to break our tradition, but instead we went to Leeds Castle.  It was a beautiful day though, and we had a fun time.
........................

The walk through the grounds to the castle was accompanied by Christmas music piped through speakers all along the path! Eventually the Castle came in to view through the bare branches of the trees.

We went for tea first, and the babies had their first cream tea... this is them enjoying their scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream!!

Each room in the Castle was decorated... with a Nutcracker Suite theme... and there were Christmas trees everywhere.

Jemima with her Auntie Diane!

At the end of the trip round the Castle, one of the guides took a picture of all of us by the 30+ foot Christmas Tree which was in the main hallway.

By the time we walked back to the car, it was dark and the lights were on... it was beautiful and very festive.

We had a great day... and it all worked out very well......  but next year...... we'll make sure we get our trip to Brugges!

How to Have The Best Christmas Ever

If we are to have the very best Christmas ever, we must listen for the sound of sandaled feet. We must reach out for the Carpenter’s hand. With every step we take in His footsteps, we abandon a doubt and gain a truth.

It was said of Jesus of Nazareth that He “increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Do we have the determination to do likewise? One line of holy writ contains a tribute to our Lord and Savior, of whom it was said, He “went about doing good … ; for God was with him.”

My prayer is that at this Christmas season and all the Christmastimes to come, we may follow in His footsteps. Then each Christmas will be the best Christmas ever.

Gethsemane

Our Relief Society Lesson at Church last Sunday was on the Atonement.... and a poem was read entitled Gethsemane... I really loved it ... so I though I'd share it here.

Gethsemane
By Ella Wheeler Wilcox

In golden youth when seems the earth

A Summer-land of singing mirth,

When souls are glad and hearts are light,

And not a shadow lurks in sight,

We do not know it, but there lies

Somewhere veiled under evening skies

A garden which we all must see --

The garden of Gethsemane.

With joyous steps we go our ways,

Love lends a halo to our days;

Light sorrows sail like clouds afar,

We laugh and say how strong we are.

We hurry on; and hurrying, go

Close to the border-land of woe,

That waits for you, and waits for me --

For ever waits Gethsemane.

Down shadowy lanes, across strange streams,

Bridged over by our broken dreams;

Behind the misty caps of years,

Beyond the great salt fount of tears,

The garden lies. Strive as you may,

You cannot miss it in your way.

All paths that have been, or shall be,

Pass somewhere through Gethsemane.

All those who journey, soon or late,

Must pass within the garden's gate;

Must kneel alone in darkness there,

And battle with some fierce despair.

God pity those who cannot say,

“Not mine but thine,” who only pray,

“Let this cup pass,” and cannot see

The purpose in Gethsemane.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox died in 1919. She is the person who penned the well known phrase "Laugh, and the world laughs with you, weep, and you weep alone" (From her poem Solitude).

I was introduced to the Twilight series of books about a year ago... and have loved reading them.  It is with some anticipation that my friends and I have been awaiting the release of the film which is the first in the series (of 4).  My lucky friends in the US have already seen the movie.. some several times (you know who you are!!!)... but we have to wait.  However........
.......yesterday I was lucky enough to go to London to attend the UK Premiere for Twilight..... I went with some of my friends - 7 of us in all.  Unfortunately we weren't able to see the film... have to wait for 19 December for that... but we had a great time Star Spotting on the Red Carpet ... actually it was Black - but that's just splitting hairs!!!!

It was icy cold and we stood for 4+ hours before they arrived.  BUT IT WAS WORTH IT as you will see from the pictures below!!!

Happy Birthday to My Wonderful Friend

"What is a friend? A single soul in two bodies." - Aristotle

A big shout out to my friend Kim... whose birthday it is today.

We haven't been friends for long... about a year.... and in fact, it is due to Blogger that we became friends! I saw a picture of her's on Blogger Play and found her Blog.... and it went from there. We have so much in common and we've shared highs and lows, and I am so grateful to her for being there for me! I love her dearly.... so... Happy Birthday Kimberly... hope you have a great birthday... I'll be thinking of you... wish I was there to share it with you!

I got a Blog Award!! How Exciting!!!
